Prince Albert Jazz Festival
One more year of living vicariously through Dale. We will be there in 2026
A few notes and photos borrowed from my dear friend, Dale Lautenbach, who chronicles her love affair with the Prince Albert Jazz Festival (and the Karoo):
Once again the Prince Albert Jazz Festival @journeytojazzofficial fed us richly. Kyle Shepherd and his Trio keep us coming back and Teardrop in the NGK was a rousing, yearning 10 minutes of pure joy and total immersion.
I do love that the conservative NG Kerk throws open its doors for the transformative experience that the @kyleshepherdtrio will deliver.
The Zolani Youth choir from Little Ashton were a revelation. Kesivan Naidoo smashed up the drums with a booming, bursting energy (his Trio Tribe has also played at the Baxter Theatre and Youngblood in Cape Town this month). Kesivan also played with a band of 6 plus, talent from all over the world. And Kujenga thrilled us with big sound.
All this and more in the clear-air spectacle of this unique, dog-friendly town at the foot of the Swartberg. The music connected everyone like the leiwater running through town.
When the performers at the wonderful @journeytojazzofficial have all wrapped up and left town you have to find other show-stoppers. The Great Karoo veld appears so sere and barren but a short scramble up a koppie and the stars lie tucked between your boots. Tread carefully.
Sign me up for next year please!
